Our best backing
plates
for dual-action polishers.
We learned about
these backing plates from talking with paint consultants to BMW, Munich and
Mercedes-Benz, Stuttgart. We located the manufacturer of these Molded Urethane, Backing Plates in Europe and are delighted to be able to
offer them to American car care enthusiasts. These are the same backing plates
being used by BMW, Mercedes and other German automakers in their assembly plants
and are considered to be the finest backing plates available.
Advantages of
Molded, Urethane Backing Plates:

The VELCRO® brand fastening material is molded
into the plate eliminating de-lamination.

Urethane reduces spontaneous
heat build-up when transitioning from flat to contoured surfaces. These
plates are recommended for compounding, polishing and finishing
"soft" German clear coats.

Vastly reduced heat transfer
keeps motor heat from being transferred to the paint surface.

Plated steel, 5/16 x 24 threaded
post fits dual-action polishers like the Porter Cable 7424XP.

Reinforced inner construction
uses steel struts molded into the center hub for superior strength.

Beveled outer edge allows easy
pad removal and replacement (FBP-325DA only.).

recommended size backing plate for the sized pad you are using. Never use a
backing plate that is larger than the foam pad or disc.
Note:
While these Urethane Backing Plates are often referred to as
"Flexible", this is not a concern with dual-action polishers where the
pad is placed flat on the surface. Flexibility of backing plates is more of an
issue when using a circular, high-speed polisher and working the pad
"on-edge".
FBP-3.5DA - Use this
3.5
inch Flexible, Urethane Back-up Plate to safely hold 4 inch wool discs and
foam pads. This is the ideal size for spot repairs as it allows you to
focus on a small area without affecting the surrounding paint.
Use this backing plate
with our 4
inch Spot Repair Pads.
Our FBP-3.5DA plate is treaded with a
5/16-24 threaded post adapter which allows
it to be used with dual-action polishers such as the Porter Cable 7424XP.
FBP-5DA - Use this 5 inch
Flexible,
Urethane Backing Plate with discs and pads
measuring 5.5 to 6.5 inches* in
diameter.
*This plate should not be used with the 7-1/2 inch,
Advanced Variable Contact Pads.
The 5/16-24 threaded post screws directly into the Porter
Cable 7424XP polisher allowing quick and easy pad exchanges.
FBP-6DA - Use this 6 inch
Flexible, Urethane Backing Plate with discs and pads measuring 6 to
7.5 inches* in
diameter. This plate
works perfectly with our standard, 6-1/2
inch, Hi-gloss, Constant Pressure Pads, our Advanced,
7-1/2 inch Constant Pressure Pads, our 6.5
inch Gel Coat Compounding Pad and our
6.5 inch Gel Coat Finishing Pads.
The 5/16-24 threaded post screws directly into the Porter
Cable 7424XP and Meguiar's G110 polishers allowing quick and easy pad exchanges.
