Menzerna Application Instructions

Menzerna Application Guide

Menzerna Intensive Polish:

This product can be used as a spot compound to remove 2000 grit swirls, scratches and paint defects or as a whole panel compound to restore dull, oxidized or chalky finishes. Unlike most domestic polishes that fill and hide swirls, Intensive Polish is designed to remove swirls and scratches by abrading away the top layer of paint or clear coat that contains the defect. This is best accomplished with a dual-action or circular machine polisher but Intensive Polish can be applied by hand. This polish contains no fillers, glaze, wax or silicones. Intensive Polish leaves little to no surface haze but should be followed with Final Polish to maximize surface gloss prior to finishing with a wax or paint sealant.

Applying Intensive Polish by hand:

Mist a Terry or Microfiber Applicator Pad with water or any quick-detail spray and apply a Quarter-size amount of polish.  Work on an area of about 2 square feet. Using a circular or back-and-forth motion, wipe polish over the area with a firm pressure until almost dry. Wipe off polishing residues with a damp Terry or Microfiber cloth. Continue polishing in 2 square foot sections until the entire panel or vehicle is done. Follow with Menzerna Final polish to maximize surface gloss.

Wipe over surface until almost dry.

Buff off with a Microfiber Cloth.

Applying Intensive Polish using a dual-action,
(Porter Cable 7424) polisher:

  • Place a foam compounding pad on the backing plate and attach to your machine polisher.

  • Work on a small area, 18 to 24 inches square, out of direct sunlight.

  • Apply two, 8 inch lines of Intensive Polish directly to the surface.

  • Mist the compounding pad very lightly with water.

Apply Intensive Polish to paint.

Put foam compounding pad on
machine's hook and loop backing plate.

Mist compounding pad with water.

Spread compound with machine off.

Set the speed dial between
3-1/2 and 4.

Work in a figure-8 pattern.

  •  With the machine off, spread the compound over the surface using the foam pad. This coats the compounding pad and the surface with product.

  • Press the compounding pad against the paint and turn the machine on. If using the Porter Cable 7424 polisher, set the speed dial between 3-1/2 and 4.

  • Work the pad over the surface in a figure 8 pattern. Go over the area in a left-to-right figure 8 pattern and then an up-and-down figure 8 pattern.

Remove residues with an alcohol/water
solution and inspect the surface.

  • Go over the area several times or until the compound starts to dry.

  • Inspect the results. Spray the surface with a 50/50 solution of Isopropyl Alcohol and water to remove compounding residues and wipe the area dry with a clean Microfiber towel. (I mark one of my water bottles "Water/Alcohol" with a Magic Marker to keep them separate) Run your fingertips over the surface. Is it smooth?

  • Have the swirls been removed? If not, repeat the compounding and inspection procedure until the swirls are removed or until no further improvement can be observed. When the surface is as defect-free as you can make it, continue to the next 2 square foot area and repeat the procedure until the entire panel or vehicle is finished.

Compounding may leave the surface slightly dull or hazy. This is normal. This dullness is removed in the next step which is polishing with Menzerna Final Polish.

Applying Intensive Polish using a circular polisher:

  • Attach a foam compounding pad on the hook and loop backing plate of your machine polisher.

  • Work on a small area, 18 to 24 inches square, out of direct sunlight.

  • Apply two, 8 inch lines of Intensive Polish directly to the surface.

  • Mist the compounding pad very lightly with water.

Apply Intensive Polish to paint surface.

Attach Yellow Foam Compounding
Pad to polisher.

Mist compounding pad with water.

Spread compound with machine off.

Start with a speed of 1000 rpm.

Work in a figure-8 pattern.

  • With the machine off, spread the compound over the surface using the foam pad.
This coats the compounding pad and the surface with product.

  • Press the pad against the paint and turn the machine on. Set the speed dial on the polisher to a 1000 rpm limit.

Tip: If you have a few stubborn swirls, increase the polisher's speed limit to 1100 or 1200 rpm and go over the problem areas until they are swirl-free.

Compounding may leave the surface slightly dull or hazy. This is normal. This dullness is removed in the next step which is polishing with Menzerna Final Polish.

Menzerna Final Polish II:

This polish can be used after compounding (Intensive Polish) or anytime as a preparatory step to waxing. Final Polish removes old wax, minor spider-webbing, compounding haze and creates a clean, smooth, highly reflective surface. Final Polish contains no wax, glaze, fillers or silicones. Minor swirls and defects are actually removed, not just covered up. Final polish II is water-based and safe for fresh paint or factory cured paint with or without a clear coat.

Final Polish II restores gloss to black and red finishes without creating polishing lines. This is a true, professional, finishing polish. Most domestic polishes hide minor swirls with fillers and increase surface gloss with gloss agents. Final Polish II removes fine swirls (when applied by machine) and creates gloss the old-fashioned way, by burnishing the surface to a mirror-like finish.

Final Polish II was designed to be applied by a dual-action or circular machine polisher but it can be applied by hand. For best results, always work in a shaded area, out of direct sunlight.

Applying Final Polish by hand:

Mist a Terry or Microfiber Applicator Pad with water or any quick-detail spray and apply a Quarter-size amount of polish.  Work on an area of about 2 square feet. Using a circular or back-and-forth motion, wipe polish over the area with a firm pressure until almost dry. Wipe off polishing residues with a damp Terry or Microfiber cloth. Continue polishing in 2 square foot sections until the entire panel or vehicle is done. Follow with your favorite wax or paint sealant.

Wipe over surface until almost dry.

Buff off with a Microfiber Cloth.

  • Go over the area several times or until the polish starts to dry.

  • Wipe off polishing residues with a damp Terry or Microfiber cloth and inspect the surface. Is the surface still dull? Have all the swirls been removed? If the surface is still dull or if swirls remain, repeat the polishing and inspection procedure until gloss is restored and swirls are removed or until no further improvement can be observed. When the surface is as defect-free as you can make it, continue to the next 2 square foot area and repeat the procedure until the entire panel or vehicle is finished. Finish with your favorite wax or paint sealant.

Detailing Tip: If you omitted compounding with Intensive Polish, went directly to polishing with Final Polish and are having trouble removing swirls, you have three options:

  1. Increase the polisher's speed. Increase the Porter Cable's speed to between 4-1/2 and 5.

  2. Switch to a foam compounding pad but continue using Final Polish.

  3. If the swirls remain, it will require compounding. Switch to a compounding pad and use Intensive Polish as outlined above.
